Hygge Hint – Music
Home Melodies
Our ears hear everything around us, even when we don’t intend to listen. All of our senses are involved in creating a hygge atmosphere. Music, daily sounds, and even silence will affect our mood. Developing hygge in your life includes intentionally selecting your background sounds. Be mindful of the sounds around you. For instance, don’t automatically turn on the TV when you get home, or discourage everyone in the house from popping on headphones and listening to his own selections.
A playlist of your “I’m going to relax now” tunes might reduce your anxiety and fretting during the day. I have a playlist called Mellow and one I call Sleepy Time. I like them because I know what to expect and of course the songs are some of my favorites. Sitting, reading a good book, drinking hot tea, and listening to my favorite melodies creates a cozy cocoon around me. Why don’t you take a little time and create your personal playlists or keep your favorites handy. Spotify and Pandora also have stations you can personalize that accomplish the same thing. Music that speaks to you may not speak to your family or others, but isn’t that the point of sharing our lives to get to know each other better. Find your very own harmony.
